Christmas Eve Tragedy in CA.

Nine Dead in Los Angeles ‘Santa’ Massacre

COVINA, Calif. —  The Los Angeles County Coroner’s office says eight bodies have been found in the rubble of a home set ablaze after a Christmas Eve shooting massacre.

Investigators ended their search Thursday night for other possible victims of the rampage. Authorities planned to return to the scene Friday.

Police say the only suspect in the shooting and fire killed himself several hours later.

Bruce Pardo set the home ablaze using a bizarre homemade device that sprayed flammable liquid. Stinging from an acrimonious divorce, Pardo, plotting revenge against his ex-wife, dressed up like Santa, went to his former in-laws’ Christmas Eve party and slaughtered the victims before killing himself hours later.

Pardo, 45, had no criminal record and no history of violence, according to police, but he was angry following last week’s settlement of his divorce after a marriage that lasted barely a year.

“It was not an amicable divorce,” police Lt. Pat Buchanan said.

The massacre began when an 8-year-old girl answered Pardo’s knock at the door. Pardo, carrying what appeared to be a large present, pulled out a handgun and shot her in the face, then began shooting indiscriminately as about 25 partygoers tried to flee, police said.

A 16-year-old girl was shot in the back, and a 20-year-old woman broke her ankle when she escaped by jumping from a second-story window. Those two, and the 8-year-old, remained hospitalized Christmas Day.

The gift-wrapped box Pardo was carrying actually contained a pressurized homemade device he used to spray a liquid that quickly sent the house up in flames, police said.

When the fire was extinguished early Thursday, officers found three charred bodies in the living room area.

“They were met with a scene that was just indescribable,” police Chief Kim Raney said. Investigators found three more bodies amid the ashes later in the day.

None of the dead or missing have been identified.

Following the shootings, Pardo quickly got out of the Santa suit and drove off, witnesses told police. He went to his brother’s home about 25 miles away in the Sylmar area of Los Angeles. No one was home, so Pardo let himself in, police said.

Police were called to the home early Thursday, and officers found Pardo dead of a single bullet to the head.

Birth Of Jesus

Birth Of Jesus

The Birth Of Jesus:

Luke 2: 1-20

Luke 2

The Birth of Jesus

1In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. 2(This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) 3And everyone went to his own town to register.

4So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. 5He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. 6While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

The Shepherds and the Angels

8And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ[a] the Lord. 12This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

13Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
14“Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.”

15When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

16So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

Christmas Displays Vandalized, and Pastor Assaulted!

Dozens of Christmas Displays Vandalized, Pastor Assaulted, Reports Christian Group

Nearly 30 acts of vandalism against Nativity scenes or Christmas displays and at least one case of physical assault against a Christian pastor have occurred over the last few weeks, according to the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, which tracks many such incidents every holiday season.

“When you see all these examples” of vandalism and assault, “it is shocking,” said Susan Fani, communications director for the Catholic League, a conservative civil rights organization. “And we’re saying, ‘Take a look at this – this shows an animus against Christianity.’”

In Sandusky, Ohio, a 50-year-old figure of the Baby Jesus was stolen from a Washington Park display and later found hanging from a ceiling fan at the alleged thief’s apartment on Dec. 12.

In Waggaman, La., a 38-year-old man and two teenagers were arrested for vandalizing Christmas lawn displays at five different homes, the Jefferson Parish sheriff’s office announced on Dec. 18.

A 50-year-old statue of a shepherd was decapitated at a Nativity center in downtown Kingsport, Tenn., on Dec. 18.

A Nativity scene outside a Christian church in Christoval, Tex., was splattered with red paint, reported the Catholic League, and in Riverside, Calif., a pastor was brutally beaten and robbed behind his church as he went to a supply room to get a Christmas bulb.

According to The Press Enterprise, 49-year-old Pastor James Dennis Warman was struck repeatedly in the head by two assailants on Dec. 7. He is now in a medically induced coma and not able to speak, and he may have brain damage, according to his wife, Mendy Warman.

Susan Fani told CNSNews.com that that Catholic League recorded at least 40 cases of vandalism (and related violence) against Christmas displays in 2007. It recorded 28 cases in 2006, 58 in 2005 and 16 in 2004.  Fani noted, however, that the group, given its resources, cannot keep track of every act of anti-Christmas violence nationwide.

“What we’re trying to do is just shed light on what is going on out there because there is a war on Christmas, and one of the fronts is the vandalism,” said Fani.  “And for those who deny there’s a war on Christmas – well, when you have attacks on ministers and taking a Baby Jesus statue and hanging it from a ceiling fan, this shows a really dangerous animus. That concerns us much more than the pranks.”

However, Annie Laurie Gaylor, co-president of the Freedom from Religion Foundation (FFRF), said that the “war on Christmas” claim is not very original and that Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League, is “full of hot air.”

“It’s just a PR game for them to do this kind of thing this time of year,” Gaylor told CNSNews.com.  “They (Christians) are the least oppressed religion in the country, let me tell you. They try to call the shots, and they dictate terms to our government, and they have (President) Bush kow-towing to them and he’s not even a Catholic. That was the only reason he vetoed stem cell research.”

The FFRF, according to its Web site, “is the largest association of freethinkers (atheists and agnostics) in the United States.”

Gaylor said that the FFRF has erected numerous displays on public property that have been vandalized. Some of the group’s signs discuss the “Winter Solstice” or say “Imagine No Religion.”

“Our sign at the Wisconsin state capital in the past has been stolen, it had acid poured on it,” said Gaylor. “When we’ve tried to do so-called public forums in parks at this time of year and put up our own banners, we’ve had them painted over, stolen and set on fire. So, there is no such thing as a public forum for religion on government property in December because the majority of religion always ends up winning. … When we try to put up our signs, we are muffled — crimes all over the place.”

It is Christians who “are doing the persecuting” by trying to keep religion in the public square, said Gaylor. “But if they can say they are being persecuted, it’s good for their religion.”

Tragic Death On Black Friday and for what?

leave a comment »

See it doesn’t matter that this was a Tragic Death at the holidays.  What makes this so upsetting is that we as a society have become more concerned about the presents and material things in life.  We are much more worried about buying the love of our children and other loved ones.  We have forgotten the true meaning of our holiday celebrations anymore.

Now I’ll be the first to admit I’m not innocent when it comes to wanting to spend and give my loved ones what they would like, but I pray this gives our nation as a whole, a better perspective on what we should really be giving our loved ones during the holidays.

May God be with this poor gentleman’s family in these rough times.

And let’s just hope that the mother and her unborn child are okay after being knocked down during the rush.
